About

Dr. Joseph D. Parr, DVM

I attended Michigan State University, where I earned an undergraduate degree in Microbiology as well as my Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. I was raised on a dairy farm in the Charlotte Area and returned here to practice when I graduated from veterinary school in 1994. I was a partner in a mixed animal practice before starting Michigan Large Animal Associates in 2005 in order to focus on Bovine and Equine medicine. My interests include Reproduction, Surgery, and Equine Dentistry. I have a wonderful wife and three great kids. When I have free time, I also enjoy fishing, cycling, and motorcycles.

Dr. Christina (Christy) Cadena, DVM, cVSMT, cVMA

I am a Michigan native from the Barry County area.  I attended Michigan State University for my undergraduate degree in Animal Science and went on to graduate from the college of veterinary medicine in 2005.  I have been an ambulatory practitioner with emergency service responsibilities focused on equine care.  My interests include podiatry, ophthalmology, performance maintenance, and general medicine.  I have earned a post-graduate certification in veterinary spinal manipulation and am proud to offer chiropractic services at our clinic in Charlotte or at your farm.  I have recently gained certification in acupuncture as an additional layer for the rehabilitation and pain management of all our patients.  When I have free time I enjoy running, cooking, and relaxing with family and friends.

Dr. Anna Davis, DVM, cVSMT

I grew up in the Charlotte area and graduated from Olivet College with a degree in biology. I graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2020. I spent a decade riding and working with the horses at a hunter-jumper barn in Battle Creek where I gained a deep respect for performance horses. In veterinary school, I focused on equine medicine and dairy production medicine. In my free time, I enjoy the outdoors, camping, riding, and playing with my dogs. I am excited to be rejoining the team here at Michigan Large Animal Associates as their newest veterinarian and look forward to working with you and your animals!

Dr. Daphne Hawvermale, DVM

I grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland, right outside of Washington DC. I attended the University of Maryland, College Park where I earned a BS in Animal Science. I went on to graduate from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in May 2022. Growing up, I was always at the barn, either riding, feeding, or cleaning anything, just to be around the horses. I competed in dressage and hunters and loved every minute of it. In college, I was introduced to cattle and small ruminants and ended up falling in love with all things large animal. I continued to pursue these interests in veterinary school, becoming an officer in the bovine, nutrition, and one health clubs, as well as being involved in the small ruminant and equine clubs to get as much learning and experience as possible. I cannot wait to share my passion for large animal preventative medicine with my new community in Charlotte. In my free time, I love hiking, running, cooking with my husband Jack, and snuggling our two dogs, Winston and Ollie.

Jessica Boerma – Office Manager

I was born and raised in the Grand Ledge area and currently reside in Charlotte.  I have had a passion for horses from a young age and growing up I would frequently visit my grandparent’s farm to help care for the horses they had.  Previously, my background has been in television broadcast, but I am excited to follow my passion for large animals and join Michigan Large Animal Associates in helping care for your hooved friends.  In my free time, I like to play with my children, swim, hike, and enthuse over classic American muscle cars.

Liz Lindsey – Office Assistant

I grew up in a large family on a hobby farm in the western Upper Peninsula but currently live outside Eaton Rapids. I graduated from Michigan State University’s Lyman Briggs College where I majored in Animal Science and specialized in Agricultural Business Management. Since I was young, I worked at a Morgan horse farm where I developed a strong love for the breed and currently care for my own Morgan mare. I also enjoy spending time with my family, reading, baking, kayaking, and being outdoors.  I look forward to working with the team here at Michigan Large Animal Associates as we serve you and your animals!
